Dolphin Delivered Mine Neutralizers

LBI’s successful work with Electric Boat and NUWC in the late 70’s ultimately led to development work with Spawar Pacific in San Diego. LBI developed many of the components of the Navy’s Marine Mammal Program, the dolphin delivered Mark 87-88 mine neutralization system. LBI developed the prototypes and manufactured the Mark 87-88 system for the Navy.

Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Newport collaborated with LBI on numerous projects which included the development and manufacture of acoustically accurate mine replicas or simulators to help the Navy to develop better methods of detection and neutralization of live mines. LBI manufactured over 300 hundred replicas of foreign training mine simulators to train Navy EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) personnel in detection and disarming of live mines.
